Including undertaking feasibility studies focusing on common legal and technical issues that arise on housing development sites.

** APM Certified Course **

The course helps delegates to control their schemes more effectively, and introduces tools that help deal with typical day-to-day problems and issues faced by Development & Regeneration staff. It is the first step towards a professional qualification.

The Association for Project Management’s (APM) Project Fundamentals Qualification (previously called the Introductory Certificate in Project Management) is designed to enable successful candidates to understand the language of project management and the structure of a successful project. After attending the course, delegates will be able to take an active part in a project team and make a positive contribution to any project environment.

This course is suitable for:

1. Development / regeneration / asset management staff involved in delivering projects who have not had training in formal project management
2. Senior executives and Board members who want an overview of project management, to better understand good practice
3. Housing Management, Lettings, Sales, Maintenance or Community Regeneration staff who contribute to the development of new housing scheme or have to deliver other projects (such as a review of void management processes, establishing an effective Resident Panel, re-tendering Term Contracts etc)
4. Anyone intending to progress to the professionally-recognised Project Management Qualification

Candidates are most likely working in a project environment with 2-3 years of experience as a project professional or be actively undertaking a project management apprenticeship or degree.

This qualification is perfect if you are aiming to advance your career, enhance your employability, and gain a broad understanding of project management without focusing on a specific methodology.

Note: This Session is a 3 day session within 2 weeks from 5th, 6th May, 7th May and 12th, 13th and 14th May

This two day course follows on from Understanding the Development Process, and looks in more detail at the construction procurement process, types of building contracts focusing on the JCT D&B 2024 form including important clauses and their application, an overview of the stages and elements of construction and then how to be an effective client during the construction, including managing the contractor and team and then managing handover and the defect management process.

The course then moves on to the planning system, forward planning and development control, planning polices, the process, conditions and obligations.

This course is aimed at those with little or no knowledge of social housing or development.   

This two day course provides an understanding of the background of affordable housing and its context within and the wider housing sector and an overview of the key stages, events and issues in developing housing and regeneration schemes from site identification and scheme inception through planning, handover and project completion.

This certification is available following the completion of the suite of HATC Affordable Housing Development training courses, comprising 54 hours of Continued Professional Development and the successful passing of the Diploma exam.

The courses to be undertaken are:

• Acquisition, Feasibility and Project Planning for Development
• Design and Planning for Development
• Building, Contracts and Managing On-site Developments
• Housing Development Financial Viability Explained

On completion of these training courses, delegates will arrange a half-day revision session with our Development trainer and consultant, Neil Clements followed by a three-hour classroom paper exam.

The Diploma in AHD package including the exam is charged at £3500+VAT.

Alternatively, you can slowly work your way through the four courses above and arrange the revision session and exam separately at £500+ expenses.

This package is aimed at new starters into the Affordable Housing Development sector.  It begins with an overview of the whole development process from inception through to handover and defects management, via the first 2 day course.

Delegates then move onto the more detailed courses covering the planning system, land acquisition and land purchase arrangements, construction contracts and managing the onsite development stage, through three further 2 day courses. 

A further single day course covers the methods of financial appraisal used by housing providers and private developers, looking behind models such as Pawmin and Proval to promote better understanding.  

The course introduces Project Management techniques (from the APM syllabus) such as scheduling, risk management, stakeholder management, change control, demonstrates how these are used throughout the process and provides example documents for delagates to take away and use.

This package is aimed at staff invoved with development who have 12 months or more experience it provides the delegates with a detailed understanding of the planning system, land acquisition and land purchase arrangements, construction contracts and managing the onsite development stage. 

A further single day course covers the methods of financial appraisal used by housing providers and private developers, looking behind models such as Pawmin and Proval to promote better understanding.  

The course includes the APM Project Fundamentals Qualification and then uses the techniques and processes learnt such as scheduling, risk management, stakeholder management, change control, introduces how these are used throughout the development process and provides example documents for the delagates to take away and use.
