Artwork Application Brief

Invitation to architects and designers to supply artwork October 2009

M3 Housing, a London based SME, has a requirement for architectural drawings of building components to be published onscreen and in print. The drawings are used by both technical and non technical staff. They need to be accurate, clearly recognisable and in the style of the existing drawings in the product range. The company continually updates the products to incorporate new types of building components and has an increasing need for new drawings to be delivered in the same style as the existing drawings. The work is commissioned in batches of between 5 and 10 drawings at intervals though the year. The total number of drawings commissioned each year is expected to be in the region of 10 to 30 in number. The deadlines are flexible. We are looking for quality, accuracy in meeting the brief and a long term relationship.

 Background

M3 Housing publishes products used by housing associations and councils to manage their housing maintenance and development programmes. The product range is based on the NHF Schedule of Rates which details the description of a repair to be carried out and a cost for the repair against which contractors tender for the work.  The product range for maintenance includes Locator Plus for repairs diagnosis, Housecall for internet repair reporting and Housecare, a tailored repairs handbook in a printed version or published online. Pamwin Plus appraises and manages the housing development projects.

The drawings will be used both for the web and for print so we will need them in a format that can be output at 300dpi as well as convertible to screen resolution. A vector format would therefore be suitable and our preferred vector format is SVG. We would also need to be able to convert the drawings to bitmaps or you may wish to present them as bitmaps (which we could scale down): PNG or PSD formats would be preferred. PDF would be suitable for proofing but we would need to see at least a sample of alternative output.

Our products are used by over 400 housing associations and local authorities, providing services to more than 2 million tenants. For more information visit our website at www.m3h.co.uk or contact Liz Circuit on 020 8254 5580.

The application process

We are looking for someone who can deliver our particular brief and is interested to develop a long term relationship with M3 Housing. For this reason we want to make the application process as revealing and useful as possible without being too demanding.

We have devised a three step process. You can submit all three steps together or just one and ask for feedback. We will give feedback on all drawings submitted, to complete you application you will be expected to submit each of the three drawings. After feedback you can re submit.

In the event of there being more than one candidate offering solutions of the required standard we will arrange an interview process.  We envisage a conclusion to the process by 31st December 2009.
